Stopped by the Hebrew Home to have lunch with our hero. My father’s got a Purple Heart, if you’re new to these parts, and I saw it today. It’s in a drawer where he keeps his wallet, keys, some Atlantic City casino chips, and monogrammed handkerchiefs. Before I got to his apartment, I noticed Being the Ricardos would be playing in the lobby in the Bernstein Auditorium.
“You want to go?” I ask, showing my father the announcement.
“Yeah, yeah. What’s it about?”
“It’s a movie about Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. You remember ‘I Love Lucy’?”
“Yeah.”
“It’s their story.”
“Is she in it?”
“Who?”
“Lucy.”
“No, she died.”
“When did she die?”
“I don’t know, but she died.”
“She died? What am I the only one left?”
