The phone rings at 1.37 a.m. Never a good sign.
“Dad, what’s up?”
“Ba, it’s Dad.”
“I know. You ok?”
“I don’t know what the hell’s going on.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m out of the world. I need the napkins and coffee.”
“Ok, I’ll bring you some tomorrow.”
“You know what I mean?”
“Yeah, napkins and coffee.”
“I have no napkins or coffee. I’m totally out. Well, I have like one of each left.”
“I’ll bring you some napkins and coffee.”
“Ok, because I’m out.”
“I’ll bring some.”
“I just didn’t know how you did that.”
“How I bought the napkins and coffee?”
“Yeah. Do you go to the store or what?”
“The store. I’ll go tomorrow.”
“Yeah, no rush. I’m just out of the coffee, you know the pods, the little whatever you call them . . . and —”
“Napkins. I’ll bring ‘em tomorrow. What else?”
“Nah, I think that’s it. Maybe I need something else. I don’t know. Ach, I give up!”
“I’ll find out tomorrow when I get there.”
“What time?”
“Between 8 and 8:30, ok?
“Yeah, fine. You know what I need?”
“Yes.”
“The napkins and the coffee.”
“I got it.”
“Yeah. Ok, have a good day.”
“You, too.”
“Remember . . .”
“Napkins and coffee, I know.”
“Good, ‘cause I’m out.”
Your Saturday Jack
1:37 AM ? I hope your heart didn't do flip flops.
At 1:37 am and I'm out of coffee and napkins. The question is when did you get back to sleep that night. "I'm out of the world" means coffee and napkins what else could it mean?
