Week 116 of our regular morning feature here at Friedman of the Plains Worldwide in which we highlight the great words and works of great men and women, as well as those who are insufferable, delusional, and even fictional.
This Week George Orwell
“He wears a mask, and his face grows to fit it.” — Shooting an Elephant
Bonus Orwell
““All history was a palimpsest.” — 1984
The first quote reminds me of Vonnegut's, "We are who we pretend to be."
Orwell's mask quotation took me back to the 1964 S5 E25 Twilight Zone episode "The Masks" in which the mask selected reflects the essential character of its wearer. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0734659/
