Another week and another look at another week’s goings-on in Europe, or as Grandma Riva, born in Horadenka, Ukraine, circa 1888 — featured here holding a very young Jack Friedman after being called away from her weekly poker game — called it, “Youpe.”

Denmark will amend its Copyright Act to grant individuals stronger control over digital imitations of their own appearance, voice, and physical characteristics in an effort prevent applications of “deepfake,” a highly realistic digital representation of a person that is created or manipulated using Artificial Intelligence. The protection lasts for 50 years after the person’s death . . . In Estonia, Anna Murdoch Mann, whose father was Estonian, the former wife of Rupert Murdoch, has died aged 81. She was the mother of three of Murdoch’s children – Elisabeth, James and Lachlan Murdoch, the latter now chairman of Fox and News Corp. She was made a Dame of the Order of St Gregory in 1998 by Pope John Paul II . . . . Greece’s Cultural Ministry has purchased a series of World War II photographs showing the final moments of 200 Greeks executed by a Nazi firing squad. The prisoners murdered were one of the worst atrocities during the Third Reich’s occupation of Greece . . .
