FIFA Announces Suspension of Rules and Will Now Stage Event Two Years Earlier Than Scheduled

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) announced that the 2030 World Cup, which was scheduled for Morocco, Portugal, and Spain (with games scheduled for Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, as well, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first championship), will now be held in 2028 in the United States, as a favor to US President Donald Trump.

The organization’s president, Gianni Infantino, announced, “The US, under the great leadership of Donald Trump, which just hosted a spectacular event, will host us again. The games cried out for America. America and this president cried out for the games. We couldn’t wait to get back there, so we tweaked the schedule. What an outpouring of affection this country showed to Donald Trump and to futbol. The world wants to see it again — experience America’s celebration of this seminal, transitional world leader.
