WASHINGTON — The White House moved on Thursday to tighten control of coronavirus messaging by government health officials and scientists, directing them to coordinate all statements and public appearance with the office of Vice President Mike Pence, according to several officials familiar with the new approach.
“Japan only got a few of our ships in the attack — and not the best ones. We have many others. And Hawaii is a long way away. The president is not that concerned.”
“I love to listen to the president talk about the moon. He was in tears when Neil Armstrong planted the flag, by the way. Armstrong wanted to thank the president personally up there, but the president said, ‘No, say something about mankind and a leap.’ The president actually gave him the line.”
“Gone With The Wind” sends a terrible message to our youth that it’s okay to lust after your sister’s husband. It’s not. Vivien Leigh is a hotty, yes, in the film, but I love only my wife. I wish there had been more war scenes. I wouldn’t have given it Best Picture. Not at all.”
“We want to make some changes on the statue because the president isn’t happy with all the words. I can tell you ‘wretched refuse’ is a non-starter. Who would want them? But, really, the French did a nice job on it. And it didn’t cost us anything.”
“The First Amendment clearly allows for the establishment of religion, if the Christian majority of the nation, which there is and always has been, wants it. It’s right there in the text.”
“Many colored want the military to integrate, many don’t, as do the whites, where some think it’s bad for morale. We’re going to ask them, these whites, what they think. This president thinks there are good people on both sides of this debate — white and those not. But he loves the way the coloreds fight.”
“I think Donald Trump could have gotten Gorbachev to tear down the wall even faster than Reagan. I really do. And he would have paid for it.”
“I didn’t listen to it all, but I liked Martin King’s speech, especially the part about the kindness of strangers. He speaks to the blacks. The rhythm in his voice speaks to them. It’s like gospel. The president has such rhythm.”
“President Nixon announced he was not a crook, and since then, Jesus — and I know this if I know anything — spoke to my heart and said he wasn’t. I know he wasn’t. And this president isn’t either.”
“Polio is not going to be that big of a deal.”
