Should Donald Trump actually succeed in goose-stepping his way to once again becoming America’s Grand High Mystic Ruler, he will get there in no small measure shielded by Republican sanctimony, manufactured outrage, naked greed, and selective memory loss.
Which brings me to all four Sunday morning talk shows: NBC’s Meet the Press, CBS’s Face the Nation, ABC’s This Week, and CNN’s State of the Union. (I did skip Fox News Sunday because I don’t pay me enough.) On the broadcasts were the solons of the GOP, if you will, the senators and governors — the sane ones, if there is such a thing these days — all happily demonstrating their self-debasement when Donald Trump enters the room and/or the conversation . . . and all auditioning to be his vice president.
Watching these four reminds one that it’s not pretty being easy.
And away we go.
