Will Be Ready for 2030-31 Season; Naming Rights Awarded To Italian Electric Company

Based on promises made by Italian officials that they would renovate the Roman Colosseum to what NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is calling “21st-century sensibilities,” the NFL has awarded Rome an expansion franchise.

“We are very excited to add Rome to our little NFL family and are excited about the upgrades to this venerable old stadium,” said the commissioner.

Italy will play in the new European Division along with London, Munich, Madrid, and Paris.

The retrofitting, which will include almost a complete redesign of the first-century structure, will be extensive and expensive.
