Been a while since we checked in with Jerry Izenberg, now 96, still living in Henderson, Nevada, still thinking about Newark, New Jersey, and the Negro baseball leagues in the ‘30s, ‘40s, and early ‘50s, still thinking about his father, Harry, who died in 1958, and still thinking about Aileen, his wife of 50 years, whom he adores.
“You think the marriage will last?” I asked.
“We’ll see. She’s still on probation.”
Somehow, you knew that was coming.
He called a few nights back because he was having problems with his computer.
My father used to call me with such questions.
Jerry used to call his son with such questions.
