On a very special FOTP News in Review, we thought it would be good, because it’s been a while, to visit with an old friend: Wall Street Journal columnist and Ronald Reagan Whisperer Peggy Noonan. Noonan, who often acts as America’s CPAP machine, forcing just the right amount of pressurized air into the nation’s collective lungs to prevent the collapse of our shared airwaves, came forth this week with her prescription for America’s health.

This is what she wrote — sort of.

What has happened to my Republican Party, the one I saw at the Revolution, the kinder, gentler one I so relished and articulated and worked so, so . . . so hard to achieve? It was a labor of love, actually, something, frankly, no one asked me to do. But I felt it was important to do so, not just for me but for you, for us — to help us find our inner, ah, I guess you could call it, innerness. It is something I painstakingly wrote about again and again and again in my many well-received books and television appearances. I am not on TV as much as I used to. I don’t know why. You’ll have to ask the gatekeepers who are in charge of such things. But still I hold America close to my bosom, even if I’m alone these days like Christina in Wyeth’s Christina’s World, splayed out before you. I can feel the embrace, even if the arms and beating heart I feel are only my own.

Which frankly, admittedly, is sad.

I am still full of it, though, still full of the words of a younger, more vibrant Peg, the words that will save my party and my country.
